Oh, G&B, I do love thee
I hate me. But Green & Black's hot chocolate with amaretto syrup takes the edge off. It's like alcohol, only without the hangover.

Yesterday Cookie was annoyed because I tried to cut out garden playtime short, so as I was walking back into the house he nipped at my backside. Cheeky bugger!

Would this be a good time to tell you John Oliver up-close and visible-undies stories?

Very much so! I need cheering up. Your icon is also very apt. :)

Haha, ok!

I've unlocked a bunch of entries for you. (I keep most of my older stuff set to "private".)

My first time meeting John Oliver, w/ UNDERWEAR STORY #1
http://fruchick.livejournal.com/89757.html

And the second time:
http://fruchick.livejournal.com/89988.html

UNDERWEAR STORY #2
http://fruchick.livejournal.com/90138.html

And PHOTOS OF UNDERWEAR STORY #1:

And something completely self-serving:
http://fruchick.livejournal.com/103707.html
(no these weren't the undies shots!)

Moving on to this year...

The return of UNDERWEAR:
http://fruchick.livejournal.com/116714.html

NO UNDIES?!
http://fruchick.livejournal.com/122676.html

Random adorable thing we have in common:
http://fruchick.livejournal.com/123769.html

MOAR UNDERWEAR REFERENCES:
http://fruchick.livejournal.com/131611.html

(I saw him again last month but no underwear sightings)

So the fact that you said someone saw him wearing red underwear at the UCB thing... this is NOT a shock!!

I really wonder if he has any idea. Although I'd love to think he's doing it on purpose, I don't think he is!

Goodness, that was quite a saga! I'd say "It's just a saga now!" but that's from a British show you probably don't get over in America, so I won't...

Aw, John's cute little boy undies sound so sweet! And his propensity for flashing them in the general direction of his audience without realising. Bless. I must confess when I read your headline of "NO UNDIES?!" I thought the flashing was of a different sort.

Hee, clown school! I am now picturing you and John in that Simpsons episode with the tiny bike. Sounds like he's a real sweetheart.

I know you from the Colboards when I used to be on there! I believe we conversed.

I'm a bit of a comedy nerd too, though I tend more towards the British spectrum. If you like improv and stand-up, check out Ross Noble, he is what Eddie Izzard should've been. Truly amazing performer. He did a travelogue series on radio called Ross Noble Goes Global and I never tire of recommending it to people.

Lol, a saga indeed! He's such a lovely person. So polite to his fans, and he gets *so* excited when you start talking comedy with him. =D I have to send him some photos (per his request!), and I've written the accompanying letter to him without even having to obsess over the wording and details. He's THAT easy to talk to.

I was a little concerned about the mature grey Calvins back in March, but primary colors have been spotted since. So yay. ;)

I'll definitely check out Ross Noble. Considering how into British comedy my friendslist is, I'm woefully uneducated. Most of my knowledge comes from Whose Line, so my idea of British comedy is Tony Slattery splitting his pants. =)

He seems very excitable in general. There's a certain puppyish quality to him that is so endearing.

I bet he owns some Spiderman underpants.

Tony Slattery! Oh my, that takes me back. I grew up watching Whose Line and my first crush was on Paul Merton. I've never quite shaken that one off, especially after seeing him at the Comedy Store and again at The Globe. I don't know if they showed Richard Vranch on the American version (he did the music), but I saw him last year and the man has not aged a day. He must have a portrait hanging somewhere.

I never got to see Richard do anything live, but friends of mine did. They loved him! It would be kinda disconcerting for me to hear him SPEAK! Paul Merton is awesome... they show a bit of his standup on Canadian tv a lot, the bit where the guy comes into his place to do work and asks "is that a cat?". SO funny!

BTW, I liked earlier when you mentioned you *used* to be on the Colboard. Thereby supporting my theory that all people with a brain eventually LEAVE the Colboard.

Richard Vranch has a lovely voice and is a very good improviser, I'm glad to say. Paul Merton doesn't do standup anymore, he is most famous here for a panel show called Have I Got News For You. It's the kind of thing John Oliver should be on, he'd be great. At the moment Merton is doing a tour of lectures on the brilliance of silent comedy.

I was on the Colboard only to a certain degree, as I pretty much only posted on my own thread. It started out as limericks and quickly ascended into full-blown Shakespearean sonnets. http://www.colboard.com/viewtopic.php?t=15638&highlight=limerick

Ah yes, I remember that thread! Never ventured into it much, though.

I've watched bits and pieces of HIGNFY -- it's excellent, and indeed something John should be on!

It was a bit of a hefty thread. It was all done very quickly and then just fizzled out as my interest waned.

HIGNFY used to be utterly brilliant, but has lost it a bit since moving to BBC1 to seek a more mainstream audience and therefore getting rubbish guests and hosts on. Have you seen much of Chris Morris? The Day Today was incredibly ahead of its time, especially as the satire of news presentation has now been surpassed by reality.
